With kids, the places where children go free are especially worthwhile: Fundació Miró (under 16), Can Prunera (under 12), the Charterhouse (up to 10) and the Coves d'Artà (under 7).

1. Coves del Drac, Porto Cristo

The cave near Porto Cristo is the safest bet for a rainy day. The operator states explicitly that rain does not affect the visit. The tour takes about an hour (Coves del Drac).

  • Price: €19.50 for adults, €12.50 for children aged 3 to 12, €1 less online. Free up to age 2.
  • Open: all year except 25 December and 1 January. Until 31 October, every hour from 10am to 5pm except 1pm. From 1 November to 15 March, entry at 10.30am, 12pm, 2pm and 3.30pm.
  • Getting there: bus 424, 427 or 428 to Coves del Drac; the stop is right at the entrance
  • Good to know: Because of the steps, pushchairs are not possible.

2. Coves d'Artà, Canyamel

The guided tour of the cave in the north-east takes 35 to 40 minutes. Down below it is 17 to 22 degrees all year round (Coves d'Artà).

4. Fundació Miró Mallorca, Palma

At the foundation set up by Pilar and Joan Miró, you can see the museum building and two of his studios, the Taller Sert and Son Boter (Palma family guide, 11/2024). Because it is spread over several buildings, you are only partly indoors.

7. Tren de Sóller, Palma – Sóller

The historic train takes about an hour from Palma to Sóller, in closed carriages (Tren de Sóller). So the trip works in the rain too, and Rank 8 is waiting for you in Sóller.

  • Price: €23 single, €30 return. The website shows no child fare.
  • Open: all year. The winter timetable applies from 2 November 2026.
  • Getting there: The station in Palma is about 100 m from the Plaça d'Espanya bus stop and next to the Estació Intermodal.

8. Can Prunera, Sóller

The museum in Sóller is made up of a modernist house, the Serra collection, a "Campo de Juego" with a hands-on exhibition and an outdoor sculpture garden (Can Prunera). It is at the end of the Tren de Sóller line and fits well into the same day.

  • Price: €11, reduced €9 (ages 12 to 24), children under 12 free. 10% less online.

  • Price: €28 with tour and tasting, €25 for the tasting only. €15 for ages 10 to 18, under-10s free.

More places for a rainy day

  • Coves de Campanet: €17, or €9 for ages 4 to 12, about 40 minutes (Coves de Campanet)
  • Bodegas José L. Ferrer (Binissalem): tour with tasting of about 50 minutes, €27.50, booking required (José L. Ferrer)
  • Free in Palma: Casal Solleric, Tuesday to Saturday 10am–8pm (Casal Solleric), and Can Balaguer, Tuesday to Saturday 10am–7pm (Can Balaguer)
  • Free in Manacor: the Museu d'Història in the Torre dels Enagistes, in winter Tuesday to Saturday 9am–2pm (Museu de Manacor)

With kids, add Palma Aquarium with its indoor play area and more ideas from our list Mallorca with kids.

Closed in severe weather: Castell de Bellver in Palma closes when the city shuts its parks because of the weather (Castell de Bellver). That makes it an unreliable choice for a really wet day.

How we chose

We only included places that are fully or partly indoors and for which an official website gives the price and opening times, spread across caves, museums, a market hall, a railway and wineries. The caves come first because rain makes no difference there, followed by places with the most up-to-date prices. Several museums in Palma, including the Cathedral and CaixaForum, are missing because we only know their prices from a 2024 brochure. We give the date we checked and review the list regularly.
